MAHE Home Automation

This project aims to create an automated home environment within a designated room at MAHE, utilizing various smart home devices. The living lab serves as an educational platform for students to learn about the functionalities, integration, and applications of smart home technologies such as curtain drivers, door locks, security systems, environmental sensors, and smart appliances.

Problem Statement

  • Students often lack practical experience with the latest smart home technologies, hindering their understanding and ability to apply this knowledge in real-world scenarios.
  • Many students have limited access to integrated smart home ecosystems, preventing them from experiencing the benefits and complexities of a fully connected home environment.

Steps taken to achieve

  • Choose a suitable room within the MAHE campus and design the layout to accommodate the desired smart home features. Select and procure a range of smart home devices from reputable companies, including those mentioned: curtain drivers, door locks, security systems (cameras, doorbell, sensors), environmental sensors, and smart appliances (AC) etc. Establish a robust and secure network infrastructure (Wi-Fi) to support the connectivity of all smart home devices. Install and configure all selected devices according to manufacturer instructions and best practices. Integrate all devices into a unified home automation system, such as Apple HomeKit, to enable centralized control and automation. Create comprehensive educational materials, including tutorials, manuals, and presentations, to guide students through the functionalities and applications of each device and the system as a whole. Conduct regular hands-on training sessions for students to familiarize themselves with the system, experiment with different features, and troubleshoot any issues. Maintain detailed documentation of the entire project, including device specifications, installation procedures, system configurations, and user manuals. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the system, gather student feedback, and make necessary adjustments to improve the learning experience and system performance.

Outcome of the project

  • 1. Provide students with valuable hands-on experience with cutting-edge smart home technologies, fostering a deeper understanding of their functionalities, applications, and integration.
  • 2. Create a dynamic learning environment that encourages innovation and experimentation within the field of smart home technology.
